Looking Back to My 10th Grade Journey

As someone who used to be a student in a private school, getting to SMAN 3 Bandung - which is not just a normal public school - was a blasting adventure. I would say I experienced more 'failure' in this period of time compared to the past years, but I am also more than grateful for getting to know many people and experiences that led me to a richer mindset about life.

One of the most interesting idea I found at the beginning of senior high school is 'jiwa kebersamaan' or solidarity. I never thought solidarity plays a big role in many aspects of our lives. When we have the feeling that we belong and have empathy for each other, many things can be done efficiently and effectively. Not only that but it also builds a mentally and socially healthy atmosphere in our surroundings.

I learned more about solidarity once I became a part of class X-3. I never thought these people would one day make me think that we are a one big family. They made me understand how to take the initiative in starting a goodness. They made me realize to never think we could not be friends if we had different passions. They made me learn how to objectify my ideas into reality without disregarding others' thoughts. I could say that being a part of class X-3 has been one of the biggest blessing I take for granted.

Yet, I don't only get priceless experiences in class. Many activities led me to more adventures. Take DKM Al-Furqan for example. Who would've thought DKM would feel like home. Being surrounded by humble and friendly people is surely pleasant to the hearts. Even though I'm no longer that active in this extracurricular, but people that I know from DKM would still greet me whenever we accidentally meet. Not just about the people, but the messages they deliver would make us feel as if we haven't made the best of becoming a servant of God - and that's what humbles my heart.

Academic competitions are some of my favorite things to do since primary and junior high school. I used to join storytelling contests before turning twelve. In junior high, I focused on upgrading my mathematics skills. I wasn't really a big fan of biology back then, but because I am aiming to become a doctor, then - like it or not - I should study hard on this subject. At last, I joined the biology group in the Trilogi extracurricular. Choosing biology was hard, yet I never knew I would learn about sincerity if I didn't choose this path.

Until the day came and I was clarified to become one of the school's representatives to join OSN-K. Though I wish for it that much, I never even thought I would be in this position and would always say that it's a fortune. This leads me to think that sometimes our expectations aren't the same as destiny. This also gives me hope in everything I would be doing just so I don't immediately have negative thoughts in certain conditions. There's always a lesson we can learn in anything we're facing in life. I also realize that God can easily raise the degree to whoever He wills, which means that there is nothing impossible to happen when God wills.

Life in senior high school went on until the day I published this blog. There are many more life lessons I learned that I didn't mention, such as treating others well, setting healthy boundaries, and also as simple as enjoying life. I'm really hoping the flaws I did this one year back would not repeat as I move to eleventh grade. Here's to many more life lessons to learn!

Goal 6 of The UN's SDG : An Overview To Sustainable Management of Clean Water and Sanitation

The UN (United Nations) is an international organization which one of their purpose is to maintain international peace and security. To reach the purpose they aim for, the UN designed a blueprint with a series of goals called The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development also commonly known as SDG (Sustainable Development Goals).

SDG contains 17 goals which are an urgent call for countries around the world, one of them is to ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all. It is explained on the UN's official website as the 6th goal of SDG, safe drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene is still out of reach for billions of people by 2022.

Their overview mentioned some datas of global issues related to the topic, below are the explanation to each of the points.

1) 2,2 billion people lacked in safe drinking water management.

2) 3,5 billion people lacked in safe sanitation management.

3) 2,2 billion people lacked in reaching out hand washing facilities.

4) 2,4 billion people live in water-stressed countries by 2020.

5) 81% of the living species that are dependent on inland wetlands have declined since 1970.

To meet the targets for 2030, the pace of integrated water-resources-management progress must be accelerated. This includes progress acceleration on drinking water, for sanitation, and hygiene. It is also mentioned on the overview regarding the number of countries per progress level. To be precised, there are 55 countries on moderate level, 52 on moderate, 44 on close to target, and 22 on substantial.

Hopes and Wishes for 2024

2023 was a year full of surprises and challenges. Many important events occurred, including graduating from junior high school and officially becoming a tenth grader at 3 Senior High School Bandung. Passing through this whole scenario wasn't easy, in fact, there were many ups and downs.

My strengths and weaknesses are two of many things that can't be put aside in my 2023 journey. And as someone who has dreams, I commit to myself to become a better person in 2024. For that to be achieved, I must reflect on my past to improve my present actions that will affect my future.

Strengths

Things I think I'm good at - or maybe also my strength - are logical or counting subjects. I'm also good at memorizing something in a short period of time. I love writing, especially daily journals or diaries. I have an ambivert personality, which makes me most of the time have the bravery to reach out to many types of people. I am a rational person, I like to reflect on facts.

Weaknesses

On the other hand, some of my weaknesses that I notice is I have a lack of empathy, which makes me difficult to understand how is the proper way to treat people in a certain condition. I am a people pleaser, this is because I don't know what I really want and need for myself so instead I please others' happiness. On the other hand, this can make me feel burdened. I'm not organized, especially in time management, and this affects my academic performance. I also overthink too much with people's judgement and have less confidence than I used to long ago.

Resolutions

And with the ending of the 2023 season, I have some bullet points I'm determined to achieve, in other words, 2024 resolutions. I want to improve my grades because I think I haven't done my best at school in the last semester. I want to fix my relationship with Allah, my family, and my friends, or make a stronger bond with them. I want to improve my behavior and soft skills, including less overthinking about my weaknesses and focusing on improving them instead.

Commitment

Therefore, in 2024, I commit myself to do several things, including...

- to be more organized, especially in time management;

- to always spend time praying and worshiping every day;

- to be more empathetic and caring to my surroundings;

- to read more books or other literature to enrich and learn more knowledge;

- to set healthy boundaries;

- to have better mindfulness in facing every scenario in life.

I believe that everyone has a chance to become a better version of themselves, as long as we are willing and determined to try and put effort at making ourselves into a better person. May 2024 be a great, blessed, and better year for all of us.

R. A. A. Martanegara

Raden Adipati Aria Martanegara was one of Bandung's former mayor from 1893 until 1918. He was born on the 9th of February 1845. Unlike other previous Bandung mayors who were from the Menak Bandung descendants, Martanegara is a great-grandson of the former mayor of Sumedang which is Prince Kusumadinata XI, also well known as Pangeran Kornel (1792 - 1828).

Childhood

Even though he wasn't from the same offspring as the previous mayors, Martanegara made quite a big difference in building Bandung into a modern city in his period. When he was little, he was taken cared of by Raden Saleh, one of Indonesia's well-known artist or painter. He also pursued his engineering studies at Ambachtschool back when he was young.

Achievement

Martanegara made several actions for city development programs in Bandung, such as paving the streets in Bandung with stones, physical city developments, revamping Braga Street into a commercial area, and many more.

Related Places

Ambachtschool was where he pursued his engineering studies. Braga Street and Groote Postweg (Dutch companies offices) are also places where he did some construction.

History

The appointment of Martanegara as the mayor of Bandung didn't run smoothly. Many of his people didn't agree for him to be a mayor. There were many important events such as the blasting of the Cikapundung bridge on his celebration of him being inaugurated, also terrors like the bombing attempt of the train he seated on to murder him, in fact one of the figures involved in this attempt was the father of R. Dewi Sartika. Those attempts to drag Martanegara down from his position never succeeded. Instead, Martanegara made a difference in Bandung and turned it into a modern city.
